IKEA has appointed Kai Wen Su to the newly created role of Local Marketing Manager for the San Francisco market, including Emeryville, Market Street, and the upcoming pick-up location in Colma.
This new role comes as IKEA focuses on expanding its presence in urban environments, with more minor, city-friendly stores like the recently opened Market Street location in San Francisco. These stores are designed to emphasize compact living, affordability, and sustainability.
According to Hanan Abdul-Karim, Public Relations Specialist at IKEA North America Services, Weng Su’s responsibilities will include overseeing communications, community relations, and local partnerships.
Weng Su will also be responsible for a new location, which IKEA chose to call Customer Meeting Point, in Colma, just outside San Francisco’s city limits.
“We will open this new Customer Meeting Point in late fall. The main reason for adding another location is accessibility and to reach more people in the Bay Area,” says Abdul-Karim.
This new specialized store will be located at 35 Colma Blvd and aims to complement the larger IKEA store in San Francisco. Although smaller—around 2,340 square feet—this new location will offer pickup and personalized consultations for home projects.
Wen Su's appointment was internal. She previously held the role of Local Marketing Manager at IKEA at the East Palo Alto department store.
