Following yesterday’s election results, Robert Strand, known as "Mr. Nordic" for his expertise on U.S. Nordic business relations, urges Nordic companies to invest in California as a stable partner. “California will be compelled to lead more boldly on sustainability policies and initiatives with Trump in office,” he says.
Robert Strand serves as executive director of the Nordic Center at UC Berkeley and is an associate professor at the university’s Haas School of Business.
"While Trump’s chaotic nature and unpredictability add turbulence to the U.S., California remains a stable, long-term partner," Strand says.
He highlights California’s status as the world’s fifth-largest economy, offering a sizable market for Nordic companies with interests in the region.
Strand also points out that California is likely to lead more boldly on sustainability policies with Trump in office, aligning with the values of many Nordic firms.
"California’s commitment to sustainability matches well with the leadership Nordic companies have shown in this area," he adds.
The Nordic Center promotes collaboration between the Nordic region and California in areas such as sustainability, technology, and education. The center acts as a bridge for Nordic businesses, government agencies, and academic institutions seeking partnerships and opportunities in the U.S.
