This weekend, the political debate in Silicon Valley took a new turn as venture capitalist Ben Horowitz announced a significant donation to Kamala Harris's campaign. Klarna's chair, Michael Moritz, has yet to comment.
Ben Horowitz, who earlier endorsed Donald Trump, has been criticized by, among others, Swedish Klarna’s chair, Michael Moritz. Moritz has called Horowitz's support "out of touch" with Silicon Valley's political realities.
Horowitz then countered by accusing Moritz of using SF Standard, a news outlet he backs, for negative coverage of Horowitz and his wife, Felicia.
According to the newspaper Axios, the “planned significant donation” was announced to Andreesen and Horowitz’s staff on Friday afternoon. However, it is still unclear where Horowitz now stands politically. In the note, he writes that he and his wife have known Harris for over a decade, but he also mentioned that the firm, Andreessen Horowitz, will shift its stance once Harris clarifies her tech policies.
Moritz, known to avoid social media, has yet to respond to this latest development in the Silicon Valley political debate among affluent investors and political donors.
Horowitz's political moves, including his earlier support for Trump and now for Harris, have drawn attention, especially given his history of backing Democrats.
Michael Moritz is a prominent venture capitalist and now a partner emeritus at Sequoia Capital. He is known for his early investments in companies like Google, PayPal, Klarna, and Yahoo.
