Since 2023, the Swedish Energy Agency has been offering startups the chance to spend three months at the SkyDeck incubator at UC Berkeley. Two more, Zpark and Green Stop, have just arrived for the next program.
The Swedish Energy Agency collaborates with Berkeley SkyDeck to provide electromobility startups the opportunity to join the incubator. The Agency covers the $25,000 fee per company. Beginning on Monday, November 4, Zpark and Green Stop will start the program after an onboarding week at Nordic Innovation House in Palo Alto, organized by the Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative.
“We hope they will achieve remarkable success in the U.S., following the path of previous cohorts,” says Marcus Rönngren Liu, Senior Manager for the Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative.
Zpark and Green Stop
The company Zpark Energy Systems, based in Luleå, specializes in next-generation charging solutions for electric vehicles. Their products include the M-series DUO, which combines EV charging and engine heating in a single unit, and the Smart Zpark platform, offering connected services for real-time monitoring and management of charging stations.
Green Stop, headquartered in Nässjö, focuses on developing and operating solar-powered charging stations for electric vehicles and heavy-duty trucks. Their mission is to create a sustainable and self-sufficient network of charging stations along major highways, contributing to the green energy transition.
Earlier batch
To date, five Swedish startups have already participated in the SkyDeck program through this initiative.
“We’re thrilled that all companies have increased their U.S. activities following the program, particularly Echandia and CommuteSaver, which are now actively expanding in the U.S.,” Rönngren Liu notes.
Echandia recently opened a 20,000-square-foot facility in Washington to produce LTO battery systems for maritime use and will supply battery systems for San Francisco Bay Ferry’s zero-emission REEF program.
According to the Swedish Energy Agency, program outcomes are evaluated through a survey and follow-up conversations after completion, with past participants expressing high satisfaction.
